Life In Alaska There are many things about life in Alaska that are unique. I've recently blogged on the acceptance of Carhartts at almost any function. Another commonly accepted thing, especially right now with temperatures below zero (-4F), is leaving your vehicle running while you do your grocery shopping, etc. I'm not talking locking your keys in your running car, and then opening it with a different set when you come back. I mean, you simply leave it running. No one seems to worry about their car being stolen. I'm sure some are, in fact, some people start their cars in the morning in front of their houses to warm up, and come out to find their cars missing. But this doesn't happen often. Many people also have auto-start installed on their cars (not me! I wish). I would never leave my unlocked car running anywhere in the lower 48, but in Alaska, it's common place in the winter. That's one of the unique qualities I love about this place. :)
